Bachelor's Program (English) Graduation Requirements

To graduate, you must:

  1. Complete 123 credit hours with at least a 60% passing grade in each course. To see complete course list Click Here.

  2. Pass the Comprehensive Exams.
    The Comprehensive exams are a test of all the course work studied in the full curriculum.

  3. Memorize 1˝ juz’ of the Qur'an 

AOU Academic Requirements

Each course requires the following:

  • Fall and Spring semesters: two written exams; Summer semester: one written exam

  • One oral exam (by phone)

  • One term paper (for most courses)

A grade of incomplete “0” will be given for any course if the requirements have not been completed within two weeks of the end of the semester.

If a student fails in a course (achieves less than 60%), the grade will be considered final, unless the instructor agrees to review the student’s grade.


Level I

  • Pass with at least 60% in each course for all of the 42 credits in the Level I curriculum.

  • Memorize one hizb (1/2 juz’) of the Qur’an.

  • Upon completion of Level I the student will receive a certificate of completion and will be eligible for Level II  (Associates Degree) courses.

Level II

Prerequisite:  Completion of Level I.

  • Pass with at least 60% in each course for all of the 41 credits from the Level II curriculum.

  • Memorize another hizb (1/2 juz’) of the Qur’an.

Upon completion of level II and fulfilling the above requirements, the student will receive an Associates Degree and will be eligible for the Level III (Bachelors Degree) courses.

Level III

Prerequisite:  Completion of Level II.

  • Pass with at least 60% in each course for all of the 40 credits from the Level III Curriculum.

  • Have memorized a minimum of three hizbs in total.

  • The Final Comprehensive Exams are taken after the completion of all course work. These are 5 exams based on the full curriculum, in the following areas: 
    1. Aqeedah 
    2. Qur’an 
    3. Sunnah 
    4. Fiqh 
    5. Arabic

Students may choose to take each of the five exams separately or at one time. Students will be given two chances to pass the course requirements and the Comprehensive Exams.

Successful completion of all the requirements from each of the levels is required before receiving the Bachelors Degree.
